Here for your consideration is a truly wonderful example of the iconic “Bad Accident” cast iron mechanical bank. This bank was manufactured by the J&E Stevens Co. In Cromwell CT in the late 1800’s. This is an exceptionally colorful bank with outstanding action: Place a coin under the feet of the driver and press the lever. The boy jumps into the road, frightening the donkey, and as he rears the cart and driver are thrown backward as the coin falls into the body of the cart and disappears. The action is smooth as fast. The little boy, the bush, the donkey and the unfortunate dapper driver are all in superior condition. You can even see the little seeds on the watermelon, the drivers fancy spats, his little tie, the gold buttons on the donkey’s collar etc. Just a really nice bank. Please note: there is an old, professional repair to the fork of the cart (on the driver’s right side). Solid and nearly invisible. Please ask any questions and I will answer promptly.
