HUBLEY'S TRICK DOG CAST IRON MECHANICAL BANK ANTIQUE ca 1920s/30s
Up for sale is an Antique’Trick Dog’ cast iron bank by Hubley Manufacturing Company, from Lancaster, PA. I believe it is from the late 1920s to early 1930s. Daniel Cook (Inventor) was granted the Patent Design Number 18,489 on 7/31/1888 for the design of these banks. It as initially produced by the Shepard Hardware Company of Buffalo, NY until the turn of the Century, when they discontinued their entire line of mechanical banks. A few years later Hubley came into possession of the designs, & started making their own models. After extensively researching these banks, I have come to find that this particular one was a unique color pattern made after said base reconstruction (from a 6-part base to 1-piece casting). A lot of these that I have found online are dated wrong, or have the wrong maker name. There are obvious differences & some subtle between the two Maker’s banks. The Clown is wearing a Black outfit with Red & Yellow accents. The Dog is Black with White spots. The barrel is Red. The base is Blue with Gold accent on the flange. It looks like the original screws/fasteners to hold it all together have been replaced with more modern screws. The Clown’s middle anchor has come loose, & I put a Black twist tie around his neck to hold him together. But, this can be easily fixed, so no worries there. There are paint chipping from the wear of time & play, as One might expect from a well-loved toy. The cover to the coin catch is missing, but parts may be able to be found online. Tested this treasure before posting this listing, & it works perfectly! What you see is what you will receive.
